Welcome to Postcard Cottages, John took early retirement from his career in the Agricultural Supply Trade to live the dream by moving from Leicestershire to the beautiful hills and dales of Derbyshire. It all started by coming on short holidays here over many years, just like you are thinking of doing. The beautiful rolling green hillside, the limestone walls, numerous sheep, pretty villages and friendly folk are very enticing! Watch out this area is addictive it could happen to you too.
Postcard Cottages now has 2 properties, the first was opened in 2015. No3 Club Cottage at Biggin by Hartington is a charming old limestone shepherd end of terrace cottage and the stunning rolling views front and back together with the safe south facing enclosed gardens make this a perfect cottage for you to enjoy. The cottage wood burning stove in the cosy lounge, the spacious kitchen diner with upcycled and renovated furniture makes it a special place to visit and unwind. The enchanting enclosed wooden staircase leads up to the 2 bedrooms and bathroom. There is full range of modern facilities for your every comfort and need. What’s not to love about it!
January 2017 saw the opening of "The Old Co-op Barn" Brassington the second postcard cottage. The barn was renovated over 14 weeks during Autumn 2016. The Old Co-op barn is so called because it used to store agricultural items for the old co-op store in the village and has been called the old co-op barn ever since when. We have kept this theme and you will see dustbin lids, potato baskets and ladders used as light fittings, old sacks and picnic blankets for curtains. John even made the whole kitchen out of used pallets which were delivered to site during the renovations and they were painted them to look like an old garden potting shed. There are many more surprises to be seen and used such as the double ended bath in the upstairs bedroom. Check it out on our gallery on the web page.
Also, the whole renovation process has been filmed by Channel 4 TV for a new renovation show called Big House Little House that was shown in Spring 2017
